Positions on the Soccer Field

This week I am going to be blogging about the positions of soccer, as well as update you on the varsity season.

Their are three main positions on the soccer field. You play with 11 players on the field at the varsity level. The positions are forwards, mid-fielders, and defenders. Forwards play up front, and a team will usually have three forwards up front. The forwards job is to take the ball up and score. The second line is the mid-fielders. They play the middle of the field usually, but will have to run all the way up and help the forwards and run back to help the defenders.

This is the position I play on the soccer field. Mid-fielders basic job is to bring the ball up from the defenders and then pass it on to the forwards. There are usually three mid-fielders on the field at a given time. The last position is the defenders. They are the last lifeline a team has, and their job is to defend the net and the goalie. The defenders job is to block the other teams forward progress and return the ball back to the mid-fielders. Their are usually four defenders. Our team plays with a line of three up front defenders and then a sweeper, or back defender, behind them. Lastly, the goalie guards the net.

The Broncs played a very aggressive and good game against Mitchell Christian over the weekend. The game was on Friday night under the lights. We scored first at the twenty minute mark and held the lead for most of the game. Sadly, later in the second half, they scored. Both teams then battled it out until the end with many scoring attempts, mostly on our side. The game ended a tie with a score of 1-1. We play Tuesday night at 7 PM at home versus Lead-Deadwood. The game is also our parents night.

  3. I think the goalie would have the most pressure on them trying to block the shots!

  5. yea i would hate to be goalie, but yet again i wouldn't ever want to run up and down a soccer field chasing a ball lol so just leave me at the goal ha.

  6. Ya there is a lot of pressure on the goalie, but I must say we have a really good one.

    1. I think we just got overconfident after holding our lead for so long and just let an easy one go by. This fired both teams up and with so much competitiveness going on, no team could get a clear winner by the end of the game.

  9. Tyler as you know Defence is the best position, and whats this forgetting the keeper.

  10. Can all of the positions move around the field, or are any restricted to a certain section? What qualities differentiate whether you're a mid-fielder vs. defender?

    1. Usually the positions are restricted to their certain areas of play. Although, a case may arise where the mid and defense or a mid and forward will need to switch spots as the game goes on. Usually, to answer your other question, the mids are faster and can run longer than a defender.
